About Us

Independence Heights is a grassroots organization founded by family and friends of young adults with autism and other disabilities. Like many families of children with special needs, we worried about what will happen to our loved one when we are no longer able to take care of them. We looked at what options were available in South Florida and found that there was nothing that met our needs.

We did find some communities where we felt that our family member would be safe. Many of these communities are part of an organization called Camphill and we have set out to replicate this model.
